Taipei City Government Cooperates with Taipower Company, Turning AR1 and CR1 Sites into Digital Technology and Art Innovative Education Centers in Eastern Taipei.
Taipei City Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taipower Company in February, starting a project to construct digital technology and art innovative education centers and public housing in Taipower Company’s AR1 and CR1 sites. This implies Taipei City Government will focus on the new developments in eastern Taipei this year.The Deputy Mayor Lin said that the Taipei City Government currently promotes the East Gate Project (EGP) and initiates Nangang District Master Plan Overall Review which will bring complete transformation of Nangang district in the future. After the construction of Nangang high speed rail station in 2016, the EGP will lead to new development of Nangang District which includes the accomplishments of National Biotechnology Research Park project in 2017, the North Pop Music Center in 2018 and National Exhibition Center in 2019. It is expected to reverse the perception of Nangang from the brownfield in former times to an innovation and art base in Taipei.According to Taipower Company Chief Zhu, Taipower Company actively seeks opportunities for cooperation with Taipei City Government. After signing the MOU with Taipei City Government, the redevelopment of Taipower Company’s AR1 and CR1 sites will be an important project of EGP. The total land area, 7.1 hectare, will be estimated to be digital technology and art innovative education centers, software and commercial industries bases, and public housing with good medical care for the elder, the youth, and young couples. The Taipei City Government currently promotes a series of government-led urban regeneration plans and expects comprehensive redevelopment in urban area. In the Nangang district, it will be witnessed a dramatic transformation in eastern Taipei through EGP and development of AR1, CR1 sites in the following three years.
